braindump of Joe McCann on "what is future friendly?" at HTML5.tx

Joe mentioned the unseasonably warm weather in Austin. Indeed it is Groundhog's Day and the groundhog saw no shadow meaning an early spring is coming see this ...anyways... The desktop web is thriving. It would be crazy to try to build Microsoft Word in a browser ten years ago, but Google Drive has changed that. Angry Birds is made outside of Flash. It is all HTML5. Mobile Web is not nearly as robust as the desktop space. Soon it will catch up. Mobile is not just the web. Joe is touching on Web vs Native arguments and feels this is the wrong way to look at things. You need BOTH web and native together. Action Driven Computing. Lots of tablet users do casual computing, using a tablet while watching TV, etc. Showtime has figured out that people are using tablets while watching Showtime. A Showtime app will listen for what you are watching on TV. If you are watching Dexter your tablet will popup with show related gunk. Digital Signage is getting less expensive and is becoming better incorporated. Joe is floating the idea of smart appliances, such as a refrigerator that is smart enough to know you are running low on eggs and milk and clue HEB in. The ARM company makes chips for phones. A service oriented architecture features loose coupling. Support PUT and DELETE.
