The city of Forth Worth, Texas is the first major US city where you can get city-served metadata on a locale based on longitude and latitude.

I did an interview with the city of cowtown months back and learned that they offer up what crimes happened at a given point and what buildings are not up to code, the code violations, etc. It's all tied into GIS.
