As seen here, the "Network Adapter" setting may be changed from "NAT" to "Bridged (Automatic)" without pausing the VM. This change is "hot swappable" (you don't have to stop the thing you are altering to make the change) and it should give you a better IP address for accessing the VM from not only your desktop, but also the others at your LAN. After you make this change run the following at the command line:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
