Ektron Configuration Files

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ektron\EktronWindowsService40 is where numerous configuration files are kept for Ektron as a service beyond the boundaries of an individual Ektron web site.

  1. data.config here contains a generic connection string to a Ektron database. There will be a different connection string here for each Ektron site. If data.config is missing a connection string then as much is a sign that something is messed up with the install of the site such as a missing Web.config file or a missing "assets" folder. A Windows service rebuilds data.config which needs the connection string for a given Ektron site for the site to run and the service will not rebuild the connection string if the Ektron site itself is so messed up that it wouldn't run anyways.
  2. DbSync.config is another configuration file. Perhaps it is for eSync (???) which allows an Ektron database to be shared across more than one IIS installation of an Ektron site.
  3. sitedb.config is another configuration file yet. I was told today to set the value for "active" to "false" here!
